Letter to the Editor: If govt. controls abortion, it should also hold men accountable

Larry Benson argues that the government shouldn’t only hold women accountable for the creation of life.

In Mark Akers letter to the editor he makes the claim that all life is sacred (“All life is sacred,” published March 26).

While I would agree that all life is precious, unless you believe in the God of the Bible or other supposed holy books, take your pick, there is no such thing as sacred, just precious.

Mark, of course, is referring to his stance against abortion and a women’s right to control her own body.

While Mark believes women should have very limited rights to make the decision whether to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term, therefore leaving the government to decide what a women can do with her body, why not put the responsibility and the onus of government intrusion on the men in this equation. After all, it does take a male sperm to start the process.

There are a couple of solutions here. We could make the male responsible for the baby upon conception, ergo, paying for all of the medical bills and care of the mother during the nine months of this process which would greatly enhance the males part in assuring that unwanted pregnancies do not happen in the first place.

Here’s an even better idea: let’s make it a law that every male child gets tested for the moment he has viable sperm and when he does, we require him to have a vasectomy, therefore eliminating any possibility of any unwanted pregnancies.

A vasectomy is an easily reversible procedure and when the male is of a sufficient age and responsibility he can have the procedure reversed and then will be held accountable for any pregnancies that occur from his sexual activity, you see, it’s a whole different ballgame when we place all of the responsibility on the male of the species. Just sayin’
