I can understand why Donna Smith (“I’m the other Donna Smith in town; don’t confuse us,” published March 12) does not want to be identified with letters written by another person with the same name, especially if she does not agree with the opinions expressed.
However, I look forward to reading to letters of various Courier-Herald readers expressing their opinions on political matters especially when a factual basis is provided in a logical fashion that can be verified. Some may look at this exercise as “political combat” but I prefer to think of it as a form public dialogue subject to each reader’s review and hopefully critical thought.
I have to admit that I agree with the opinions of the other Donna Smith provided in the same column on (“Trump’s tantrum on full display,” published March 12) as well as the letter by Larry Benson (“Our government must stop appeasing dictators,” published March 26) which laid out the facts upon which he based his opinions on.
In the same issue, Jon Buss provided his opinions on the tax increases by Democrats which readers can also think about and evaluate for themselves (“Mark my words: tax increases are coming”).
While I agree with some letter writers more than others, at least I have the comfort to know I am not alone in my view of our political world. As toxic as our political climate has become I am grateful that the Courier-Herald gives us a platform to express our concerns and views in a civil manner.
