Letter to the Editor: Stop with the knee-jerk letters and think critically

Reader Jerome Loran wants people to think more critically about the current political situation.

Recently there have been a few posts expressing emotion rather than thought. The subject matter has been political, expressing disdain for President Trump and Elon Musk. I will attempt a concise rebuttal. First, it is important to relate some possible motivations for these tirades.

One begins with definitions. A ‘tirade’ is defined as a long, angry speech of criticism. Another definition is from Jungian psychology which states that we project ourselves onto the world; that we do not see the world as it is, rather we see the world as we are.

The statements accused President Trump and Elon Musk of greed, using their positions to benefit themselves. This is a projection, a delusion of envy. An expression of the feeling that if I cannot be wealthy then the wealthy must have been dishonest to become wealthy. An error by many is to state that President Trump is not a successful business person because of previous bankruptcies, however many wealthy business people will tell you that 90% of their ventures failed but the 10% that succeeded made up for any losses. Elon Musk is a very intelligent, creative, and successful business person. He does not need any extra wealth. He stated no one could bribe him because he already has more than he needs. So, these claims of greed are spurious. They are regurgitations from unthinking reactionary social media.

Consider Ukraine and the statements of ‘standing with Ukraine’. What is the intention of using such an ambiguous phrase? Is it true empathy for the people of Ukraine? Is it an expression of disdain for the President? Diplomacy works to shape the world so it benefits the U.S. Zelensky was asking for more free money and President Trump was defending your tax dollars. A mineral deal is a good thing. As for appearing to shoulder up to Putin, that too, is strategy. This is a long game. Please think.

Next is this Hamas agitator. By arresting a leader who has been inciting others to violence, it is intentionally enticing the other extremists in these colleges to come forward and protest. It is thus easy to arrest and deport them also. This is a long game. Please think.

Verbatim quotes from years ago: “We simply must make the cuts in waste, fraud and abuse” – Nancy Pelosi.

“There is an enormous amount of waste, fraud and abuse in this government” – Bernie Sanders.

“If we are going to eliminate the waste, fraud and abuse in Medicare, it does mean we are going to cut some of that out” – Chuck Shumer.

Now, there is a chief executive willing and skillful at exercising the full measure of executive power, and he has appointed a temporary staff member, Elon Musk. Nothing has been unconstitutional. Everything is moving forward with Project 2025 as it should.

I recommend the discipline of critical thinking which includes analyzing information, evaluating evidence, making reasoned judgements, being open-minded, and engaging in problem-solving. Letters of an emotive tirade, are a disservice.
