Obama active like king, not like a U.S. president | Letter to the Editor

Rich Elfers is needlessly confused and completely wrong in his analysis and question “why the Republican party has antipathy toward the President” (March 30, editorial).

While he lists a series of Progressive talking points and demographics about racial and other divides within the electorate, the antipathy is much more simplified. Our constitution stipulates and our founders intent was to have three separate but equal branches of our government, each with a distinct but limited role and none with greater power than the other.

Mr. Obama is the ‘chief executive’ and his duties are to execute and administer the existing laws as passed by Congress. This president has determined he can also make his own rules and laws with executive orders and through the bureaucracy in the form of a fourth rail of government, the unelected bureaucracy.

Look what he is doing with the EPA, the IRS (Lois Lerner and the targeting controversy), shutting down industries he dislikes (coal and fossil fuels) and favoring through subsidy industries he favors (solar and wind) through subsidy and crony capitalism and market interference, the list goes on and on.

The American people want and deserve a President who will stick to his mandated job of protecting and defending the constitution and enforcing the laws as passed by Congress. We do not elect Presidents to be Kings however this President obviously see it differently. This President prefers making rules and bureaucratic fiat or mandates over preserving, protecting and defending the Constitution, the oath he has sworn to uphold.
