I don’t know where this letter is going – I’m so upset and angry it’s difficult to settle my thoughts down.
Unfortunately, and I do mean unfortunately, my take on guns in this country has again been proven valid. The past month here in the Seattle/Tacoma area there have been five, count them, five, police officers killed with guns. I do not like pointing this out (I knew one of them a little) but my point is being made regarding guns.
Guns are no help in a protection mode. Each of those officers was “protected” by their own guns. They are, now, unfortunately, dead. Some protection their guns provided. Please gunnies, do not come up with the usual excuses; these people are dead and their guns did not “protect” them. None of them had their guns in the position I maintain must be used for “protection.” Loaded, cocked, pointing in all directions at once – an impossibility, granted, but guns for “protection” unfortunately are also an impossibility.
Can we please restore or even begin to acquire sanity regarding guns? They are useful as a sport, revenge and offense, but not for defense. Can we begin, gunnies, to change at least your dialog regading guns? You “need” them for your own personal feeling of security – which I believe has been proven totally false – or for your own ego build-up. But not for “protection.” You want them for sport – no problem there. And for the rest of us “unprotected” ones, I repeat – either do not ever again visit Mount Rainier ( someone with a now legal, but not moral, right to carry a gun will shoot you for being a bear) and, for heaven’s sake, limit your contacts with others as much as possible – someone here in the lowlands has a gun, and will use it if they feel like it. Be afraid at a ballpark, grocery store, on the street, etc. The idiots are out and armed.
Five police officers. Five! I’m sick of this.
