I recently received in the mail Rep. Dave Reichert’s newest propaganda touting his support for the rights of seniors. In his flyer – prepared, printed and mailed at taxpayers’ expense – he makes the claims seniors should receive benefits they’ve been promised, that out-of-pocket medical expenses should be reduced, benefits should be improved and Medicare should be ensured for future generations. He went on to state that younger workers, when eligible for Medicare, should have choices of coverage that best suit their needs.
How clever Mr. Reichert must think himself to be! He never once mentioned maintaining the current Medicare plan but skillfully hid his message of discontinuing Medicare as a public healthcare initiative for our seniors and instead delivering the profits over to the wealthy private insurance companies.
Does Mr. Reichert think we will ignore his voting record and assume he has had a change of heart? If so, let him stand before his peers in the House and proclaim his allegiance to the working class Americans who someday expect the government to fulfill its promises, not just the wealthy and those that line his pockets.
The next time Mr. Reichert decides to talk out of both sides of his mouth, don’t ask the taxpayers to pay for it.
