School district has history and tradition

This is in response to the question posed by Dick Hughes, “Why is the Black Diamond area still within the boundaries of the Enumclaw School District?” I have two words for you, Dick: history and tradition.

Black Diamond was its own school district prior to merging with the Enumclaw School District in the 1970s. The property taxes of Black Diamond residents have been supporting the Enumclaw School District for nearly 40 years. Even before the merger, Black Diamond students went to high school in Enumclaw as Black Diamond was a K-8 school, crossing over the Kummer Bridge every day without a fatality.

Families of Androskos, Botts, Capponis, Dal Santos (I could go on) have long lived in Black Diamond and graduated from Enumclaw. My dad and his siblings grew up in Black Diamond and were EHS graduates. My brother, sisters and I grew up in Black Diamond and were EHS graduates. My children will graduate from Enumclaw.

Black Diamond and Enumclaw: history and tradition.
