Selective hearing can plague parties

An independent’s reply to Barbara Andrews (Letters to the Editor, Courier-Herald, Sept. 30):

You claim “the Republicans in Congress need to have their hearing checked, get a cure for their selective hearing condition…,” what about your selective hearing condition?

I heard Obama say:

1. He would “not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House Web site for five days.” On Jan. 29, 2009, President Obama signed his first nonemergency bill, the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, which was never posted on the White House Web site. He lied.

2. The “Transparency and Integrity in Earmarks Act, will shed light on all earmarks by disclosing the name of the legislator who asked for each earmark, along with a written justification, 72 hours before they can be approved by the full Senate.” Did we have access to the thousands of earmarks in the TARP bill? No. He lied.

3. In a campaign speech, “I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of setting the agenda in Washington are over. They will not run my White House…when I am president.” Former lobbyist, Valerie Jarrett, is now a senior advisor in Obama’s cabinet. He lied!

4. “Under my plan, no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase. Not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes.” Now in office, Obama signed a law raising the federal tobacco tax nearly 62 cents on a pack of cigarettes. He lied!

Obama claims he is not in favor of a single-payer system but in 2003 he said, “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer universal health care program. That’s what I’d like to see. But as all of you know, we may not get there immediately. Because first we’ve got to take back the White House, we’ve got to take back the Senate and we’ve got to take back the House.” Long before Obama took office Medicare and Medicaid, which provide coverage for a very small percentage of Americans, have been operating at a deficit.

If Obama gets his 2003 wish, how can we afford to provide health care for 330 million people without a huge tax increase?

Yes, Obama is saying illegal immigrants and abortions will not be covered by his health care plan. However, the Democrats are not willing to include a requirement for proof of citizenship in the bill, nor are they willing to state abortions specifically will not be covered. You tell me, is he lying or would it be the Democrats in Congress in whom you seem to have naively placed your trust?

I personally do not know a cure for selective hearing, but if you decide to buy a hearing aid please be sure to buy it in Bonney Lake to stimulate our city’s economy!
