Smart people don’t need to flaunt it

A conversation between my son and the “Smartest Man in the Room”.

A couple of weeks ago my son was at church and heard someone call another guy Dan. Having seen his picture in the Courier-Herald, he wondered if that person was columnist Dan Shannon, so he asked someone and they responded that he indeed was “that” Dan Shannon.

After striking up a conversation with him, my son happened to mention that he was the son of the Larry Benson, who has taken issue with his guest columns in the paper where I refer to him as “The Smartest Man in the Phone Booth”. In case you are unfamiliar with his columns, he calls himself the “Smartest Man in the Room”.

Well, I’m sure a lot of you have heard the adage, “Smart people don’t need to tell you how smart they are.” This adage was used a lot about Trump but it holds up really well with anybody who feels the need to say that about themselves. I guess he must think that, by stating that up front you might believe the conclusions he draws from the factoids and assumptions he spouts, don’t.

I guess in an attempt to turn the tables on my “phone booth” comments, he told my son that it is a large phone booth and on that point I would concur, it would have to be a rather large phone booth for him to fit his head into it. Just sayin’.
