Pierce County had the lowest voter turnout at 42.96 percent of all Washington state counties.
Nine other counties had extremely poor voter turnout as well; under 50 percent.
I wonder if anyone else is concerned by the fact the majority of registered voters are not interested in the issues that face us nor do they care what kind of people are elected, who may make laws, rules and regulations that are not in the best interest of the common good.
The approval or rejection of issues and the election or rejection of a candidate running for office have consequences for all of us. If a majority of the minority always decides what is best for us, our form of representative government suffers.
I wonder if an edict came down that denied us our privilege to vote, how many of the majority who do not vote would care.
The greatest difference between a dictatorship and a democratic republic is the right for the people of self government with voting rights the hallmark.
If the people are so apathetic and indifferent to inform themselves about issues and candidates running for offices, that apathy and indifference can only lead to a dictatorship.
Is that what the majority really want?
