CERT PROGRAM

This month, the city of Puyallup’s Emergency Management department will be teaming up with the Buckley Fire Department this March to teach free classes on how you and your community can prepare for and respond to a disaster. Training topics include fire safety/utility controls, light search and rescue, team organization, disaster psychology, and disaster medical operations. Classes will be hosted at the Wilkeson Fire Station on March 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 19 25, and 26. To sign up, go to cityofpuyallup.org/cert.

Teen Thrifting: The Donald Loomis Memorial Clothing Bank is hosting a Teen Thrift event at the Wickersham campus (250 Main Street #600, Buckley) on March 1 from 12:30 to 3 p.m. The event is for White River and Carbonado School District students grades 6 to 12; kids must bring their ID to participate. 2000s Trivia Night: The Buckley Downtown Association is hosting a 2000s trivis night on March 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bootleggers (29285 WA-410). Tickets are $15 per person or $50 for a group of four. Proceeds will be donated to the White River Soccer team.

March 8

Woodcrafters show: The second-annual Woodcrafters Show in Buckley is back. The free event showcasing woodworking craftsmanship is scheduled for March 8 is located at Marion Grange Hall (27725 Sumner Buckley Hwy) from 2 to 6 p.m.

Cascade Mountain Men expo: Ever wonder what it’s like to shoot American Revolution-era guns? Well, you can’t fire them at the annual Cascade Mountain Men Expo at the Enumclaw Expo Center on March 8 (9 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and 9 (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.), but there will be muzzle-loading firearms and gun parts, shooting supplies, fur goods, period clothing and camping gear, and more for sale. Tickets are $10 per day; kids under 12 can attend for free. For more information go to cascademountainmen.org.

Father/Daughter Dance: The Enumclaw Rotary Club’s annual Father/Daughter Dance is scheduled for March 8, with sessions at 1:30, 4, and 6:30 p.m. at Enumclaw High School. FFA dinner and auction: The Enumclaw FFA is hosting a dinner and auction on March 14 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Enumclaw High. Tickets are sold at the door, and are $20 per person, or $15 per person if you have a family of four or more. Kids under 10 can come for free.

March 15

St. Patrick’s pop-up: The Black Diamond Ten Trails neighborhood is hosting a St. Patrick’s Day pop-up market on March 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wear green!

March 21

Country Chicks market: The Country Chicks is kicking off spring with a “Junkin’ Adventure” at the Enumclaw Expo Center on March 21 (12 to 7 p.m.) and March 22 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.), featuring vintage, upcycled and handcrafted furniture, antiques, decor, jewelry, and more. “Shred It” fundraiser: Got boxes of documents to shred? The Enumclaw Rotary Club will help you out during its “Shred It” event on March 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free but a $10 donation per box would be appreciated, as donations support Rotary scholarships for Enumclaw and White River School District students. Paper only — no CDs, hard drives, three-ring binders, etc.

“Fantastic Journey” concert: The Gateway Concert Band is performing two of its spring concerts, titled “Fantastic Journey,” on Sunday, March 23( at 2 p.m.), and Monday, March 24 (7:15 p.m.). Both concerts are located at Thunder Mountain Middle School. The event is free but a $10 donation is greatly appreciated. For more information visit www.gatewayconcertband.org.

Danish Hall turns 125: The Danish Sisterhood of Enumclaw is celebrating their building’s 125th birthday on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free open house includes historical presentations (at 10:30 a.m.), speakers, and cake and refreshments, plus opportunities to make your own aebleskiver (a Danish pancake ball) and paper Danish hearts.

RECURRING EVENTS

Brewskis with a Newsie: Come meet your local journalist on every first Wednesday of each month from 5 to 6 p.m. at Fill’s Growlers (check the back room). This is an informal event where residents can pitch stories, fact-check articles, and talk shop. For more information, email rstill@courierherald.com or call 360-802-8220.

Scottish Dancing: The Plateau Scottish Country Dancers have resumed Monday night classes and are welcoming new members. Classes are from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Danish Hall (1708 Porter St. Enumclaw). Cost is $5 per person and a partner is not required. Dances are taught according to the skill level of those attending, so beginners are always welcome! Scottish Country Dancing is a centuries-old tradition reflecting the music and culture of Scotland. It’s great exercise and a lot of fun! Come see what we do. Coffee with the Mayor: Enumclaw Mayor Jan Molinaro hosts a Coffee with the Mayor on the first Mondays of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. This is a casual session for citizens to meet with him and discuss issues, concerns, and projects.
