Don’t miss all the Halloween-related events this month!

Correction: The print edition incorrectly reported the White River High School parade was Oct. 16. The correct date was Oct. 18, but it has since been rescheduled to Oct. 17. The article has been updated.

FALL FESTIVITIES AND FRIGHTS

SINGLE EVENTS

Oct. 5

Hometown Harvest: Osceola Country Gardens (at the Matson Family Farm, 46620 228TH Ave SE Enumclaw) is hosting its annual Hometown Harvest event on Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Activities at the gardens includes a bake sale, a scavenger hunt, artisan booths, with pumpkins, gourds, and flowers to pick. Oct. 6

Patriot Party: Headworks Brewing is hosting a Patriot Freedom Party on Oct. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Cole Street, from Headworks Brewing to the Casting Iron. The free event includes live music, various speakers, and the opportunity to learn about the upcoming general election initiatives and candidates. Attendees are encouraged to “show your colors.”

Oct. 11

Casket Race: NW Magical Events’ Casket Race is being held on Oct. 11. In short, the event is similar to a homemade cart race, with “pallbearers” to help guide the “corpse” inside the casket from the starting line to the finish line. There are multiple prize categories (e.g. first place and dead last, scariest and funniest casket, etc.) and race events (families, non-profits, elected official candidates, etc.). Oct. 12

Viking Feast: The Enumclaw Danish Sisterhood is hosting its annual Viking Feast on Oct. 12 at the Danish Hall. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., and dinner starts at 6. Viking attire is encouraged but not mandatory. The meal includes several appetizers, a soup, alcoholic drinks, and a whole smoked pig. Tickets are $65 per person, and you must RSVP by mailing a check to Pepe Terou, P0 Box 1163, Enumclaw, WA 98022 (make checks out to the DSS Lodge #75). For more information, call 360-802-4326.

Buckley Museum Fundraiser: The Buckley Museum is hosting an “In Black and White: Putting on the Glitz” fundraiser on Oct. 12 from 5 to 8 p.m.. The event features a catered dinner (starting at 6 p.m.), a cash bar, and an auction. Tickets are $30 per person, or $240 for a table. Tickets are on sale at the museum, the Heritage Center in Buckley, or over the phone by calling Jean Contreras at 480-980-9564.

Witches Night Out: NW Magical Events’ Witches Night Out is likely its most popular bar crawl of the year. Held on Oct. 12, the event features prize drawings, costume contests, scavenger hunt, shopping, drink and food discounts for attendees. Tickets are $30. Oct. 17

WRHS Homecoming Parade: White River’s annual Homecoming Parade will also take place on Oct. 16, and will roll down Main Street at 5 p.m.

Oct. 18

Crystal Quilters Show: The Crystal Quilters of Enumclaw is hosting its 28th annual quilting show at the Enumclaw Expo Center on Oct. 18 and 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be scores of quilts on display, a raffle quilt, various baskets and door prizes, demonstrations, and other country store and vendor booths (including a knife sharpener). Admission is $8 at the door; bring up to three cans of food for the Plateau Outreach Ministry’s food bank for a fat quarter each. For more information, go to facebook.com/crystalquilters.

RECURRING EVENTS

Brewskis with a Newsie: Come meet your local journalists on every first Wednesday of each month at Cole Street Brewery (1627 Cole Street, Enumclaw) from 5 to 6 p.m. This is an informal event where residents can pitch stories, fact-check articles, and talk shop. Scottish Dancing: The Plateau Scottish Country Dancers are resuming weekly classes on Monday, Oct. 7. Classes are from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Danish Hall (1708 Porter St. Enumclaw). Cost is $5 per person and a partner is not required. Dances are taught according to the skill level of those attending, so beginners are always welcome! Scottish Country Dancing is a centuries-old tradition reflecting the music and culture of Scotland. It’s great exercise and a lot of fun! Come see what we do. Coffee with the Mayor: Enumclaw Mayor Jan Molinaro hosts a Coffee with the Mayor on the first Mondays of the month from 9 to 10 a.m. This is a casual session for citizens to meet with me and discuss issues, concerns, and projects.

Cancer Support Group: The Plateau Prostate Cancer Support Group, which is open to everyone diagnosed with any cancer and their loved ones, is meeting at the Enumclaw airport every second Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.
