The Bonney Lake Senior Center is actively looking for volunteer green thumbs to help tend to its plots in the city community garden.
The center has three plots located near the entrance of the garden, which is used to help locals grow their own produce. The community garden is located on 89th Street East, next to Lions 4 Kids House.
The senior center has purchased seeds of tomatoes, peas, beans and squash to grow in the plots, to be planted soon in order to make the growing season.
Produce will go to the kitchen of the senior center for meals. Surplus produce will go directly to center members.
“The garden will really help to supplement our center’s lunch program,” Senior Aide Jan Smith said.
The center will be able to provide a sheet with volunteer hours for high school students looking for a boost on their college application, she said.
The senior center is located at 19304 Bonney Lake Blvd.
