Buckley Kiwanis names May 2023 Students of the Month

Two students from the White River School District were honored recently.

Buckley Kiwanis Club members honored two young people as their May students of the month.

The following information was provided by the club, based on input from the schools.

Jack Miller, Glacier Middle School

“Jack is very deserving of this recognition. Jack has a heart for others and for his community. He is a friend to everyone and carries his positive outlook everywhere he goes. Jack never hesitates to help out a classmate, comfort a friend when they’re down, give a compliment to a student or adult, and will often hold the door for people.”

“He is also an academically high-achieving student and continues to challenge his mind with new information and skills. Jack cares deeply about people and puts full effort into everything he does. Jack is involved in lots of activities at GMS, is at every one of our choir events, and has been a volunteer for the Foothills Historical Museum here in Buckley.”

JoJo Cox, White River High School

“JoJo has grown up in Buckley her whole life and has been an active member in the community. She has four siblings — her oldest just graduated and goes to college in North Dakota, one sister is a freshman at the high school, and her brother is in 7th grade at Glacier. Her family enjoys hanging out outside and going to the park, watching movies together, and Pokémon go. They are also big soccer fans.”

“She is currently a member of DECA and has gone to state each year to compete. She was in FFA as a freshman and also competed at state. She has been in the National Honor Society and was the historian for the club this year. She helps create the Daffodil float. She also completed the community service hours to earn her stoll for graduation. She has been in AVID for five years and has gained so many skills to help her be successful in college and her career. This year she was a senior class officer and helped organize the Homecoming float for seniors and senior prom/end-of-the-year festivities. She is in drama club and in our play Clue. JoJo also is on the unified soccer team.”

“Jojo takes her education seriously. She has consistent attendance and is focused on her future goals. JoJo has a 4.0 and has taken many AP courses, but this year she really enjoyed AP Lit and Gov. She has taken many business and marketing courses, including working in the Hornet’s Nest, and is receiving the pathway cords at graduation. She was also in leadership and worked on many service projects for the school and community. One specific focus was winter wishes. She also took Careers in Education and has really enjoyed working with students at Mountain Meadow. Jojo is constantly mentoring/assisting other students with a smile and kindness.”

“JoJo is attending Whitworth University and is going to study elementary education. She is a scholarship recipient of Mr. Meisenbach, which is helping her pay for her college tuition.”
