This year’s Independence Day Parade down Enumclaw’s Cole Street is being called a “huge success” by its organizers.
“I wish I could guess the number of attendees! But I will say – by far our best and biggest turnout for a Fourth of July Parade in the five years I have been producing the event,” said Kerry Solmonson, director, PR and Events for the local Chamber of Commerce. “It was such an honor for us to be able to host this community-favorite event again this year.”
This year’s parade featured about 50 floats, five less than last year, in part because the Chamber has received feedback that past parades were too long. For example, last year’s Christmas Parade was 100 floats and many people had left before the event was over due to the biting cold.
The Chamber (and parade spectators) select three floats every year to extra recognition: Koontz Dental won Best Theme; MG Car Club received Best in Show; and Kids on Bikes was the Family Favorite.
The parade is a Herculean effort to organize and pull off, and Solmonson made sure to thank everyone who helped.
“[The parade] is a huge group effort and requires an enormous team of volunteers leading up to, and the day of the event to make it possible,” she said. “We had an incredible group of volunteers out in the staging area making sure everyone was lined up and ready to go.”
