Jazz Sunday, a three hour concert on April 14, features two popular Pacific Northwest jazz bands.
Chalet Arts Showcase Theater (CAST) and Cassandra Music & Supply, Inc is offering an afternoon escape to jazz land at 2 p.m. at the Chalet Theatre,1721 Wells St. in Enumclaw.
The headliner act, Lakewood Community Jazz Band, a 20-piece orchestra with two vocalists and a repertoire of over 100 tunes, performs regionally from Bellingham to Olympia. Lakewood Community Jazz Band plays big band classic sunder the genius of Conductor Syd Potter whose distinguished career as retired head of the University of Puget Sound Jazz Department brings a lifetime of experience and orchestration to the stage. As a trumpeter, Potter performed with many nationally-knownjazz artists including Chick Corea, Stevie Wonder, Jackie McLean, Sam Rivers, Carl Fontana, Gene Harris, and Ernie Watts.
The opening act for Jazz Sunday is a local group of six musicians named By Committee, popular in the Auburn – Enumclaw and Plateau area. Lori McKenna on vocals, Steve Body on bass and congas, Dennis Box on lead guitar, Mark Thompson on keyboards, Paul Jackson on drums and Fred Davis on trumpet and flugelhorn play a mix of new and original arrangements of rock, bossa, Latin, contemporary, blues and ballad standards. By Committee has performed live music nights at Enumclaw Music, Main Street Coffee, Hope Lutheran, Enumclaw Rotary Park, Mutual of Enumclaw Stage Race, Enumclaw Senior Center and Lindon Books. By Committee most recently performed the musical score of Legally Blonde on stage at Enumclaw High School.
