Fans of the book “Hotel at the Corner of Bitter and Sweet” will have two chances to meet novelist Jamie Ford tomorrow afternoon, April 13.
“Hotel” is the focal book of the 2012 annual Pierce County READS event. It is a historical fiction novel, framed in flashbacks, that tells of a young Chinese-American boy’s friendship with a Japanese-American girl during the height of World War II. They find themselves divided by their ancestors’ mutual prejudices, bonded by friendship, then ultimately separated when the girl, Keiko, is sent to an internment camp.
Ford will first be available in the Arts and Allied Health Building of Pierce College in Puyallup at 12 p.m. Pierce College is located at 1601 39th Ave. S.E.
Then, at 7 p.m., he will be in the Sharon McGavick Conference Center at Clover Park Technical College. That campus can be found at 4500 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W. in Lakewood.
