As most of you who read this column know, besides working for the best company in the world, working in my yard, painting a picture and herding my cats, I love to attend as many shows and performances as I can depending what my schedule allows. I attended a fantastic concert by Cascade Foothills Chorale at the White River High School theater June 11. Those tunes really brought back memories and I could tell the chorale was having a blast on stage.
The “By Committee Jazz Band” accompanied the chorale and was also featured as a special guest during the concert. Well done, folks. Bravo!
CFC originally started out as The Buckley Enumclaw Community Chorus Organization. I know this because I was one of the founding members and sang with this marvelous nonprofit organization for a few decades. Yes, I said decades. CFC still has original members performing with them. No wonder this choral group has been such a force in our community. It’s the caliber and quality of the people in its organization.
The group’s last concert brought back memories of the show tunes I love to sing and I sat there listening and watching with a silly grin of appreciation on my face through the entire concert. Congratulations to Director Dean Suess and the entire membership of Cascade Foothills Chorale.
Speaking of tunes, I highly recommend to anyone to attend The Gateway Concert Band’s concerts this summer. I love band music and Jack Prindle knows how to “bring it.” At 7 p.m. Aug. 15, the Gateway Concert Band will be performing “The Dog Days of Summer” complete with a three-minute musical presentation performed for a Dog Dancing Troup at Rotary Park across Griffin Avenue from the Enumclaw library. I can’t wait to see and hear this concert. The band will also be performing at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 in Sumner at Christ the King Church. Log on to www.gatewayconcertband.org for information.
During the last board meeting of Stage Door Productions, board members planned seasons through spring 2013. We have an exciting lineup of shows and concerts coming up and it gives me great pleasure to share with you our performance schedule. You might want to clip this column for future reference!
SDP Youth Camp will be performing “Honk Jr.” directed by Paul Walk. Camp goes from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, July 11 until Aug. 7 except for the last weekend when times will vary based on performances. Call 360-825-2212 for details.
SDP will perform the amazing radio show “Casablanca” at the Mt. Villa Mobile Home Manor Club House, behind The Summit Church in Enumclaw at 7 p.m. July 29 and 30. A matinee will be offered at 2 p.m. July 30 as well. Admission will be $5 per person.
October of 2012 will bring to the Plateau an exciting performance of your favorite Broadway musical highlights by Stage Door Productions.
At 2 p.m. Nov. 5, SDP will be sponsoring ragtime pianist Bob Milne at the Chalet Theatre in Enumclaw. You don’t want to miss this one.
Once again SDP will perform the radio show “It’s A Wonderful Life” the weekend after Thanksgiving on Nov. 25 and 26. We’ll let you know where the show will be at a later date.
What a great way to usher in the holiday season.
In April of 2012 Stage Door Productions will present Morton DaCosta’s musical, The Music Man. “Yes,
Sir! We got trouble! Right here in River City!”
In the summer of 2012 SDP Summer Youth Theater Camp will feature, two shows, “Aladdin, Jr. and “The Jungle Book.”
There will also be a 2012 Summer Radio Show adapted from the story “Stagecoach,” written by Ernest Haycox. John Wayne was my hero when I was a little girl and I believe watching the 1939 movie directed by John Ford is when I fell in love with “The Duke.” SDP presents a radio show in front of a live audience.
We don’t “broadcast” out on a live radio frequency, but deliver the show as if we were. The shows come complete with awesome sound effects and, of course, commercials for Lux Laundry Soap.
In October of 2012 SDP will resurrect the stage production of Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” just in time for Halloween.
In November of 2012, the beloved Bob Milne will return to Enumclaw once again to share his lifetime of incredible ragtime, foot-tapping piano selections with the Plateau.
December of 2012 SDP will present the family favorite, “The Christmas Carol” as their holiday radio show.
Hear Ebenezer Scrooge and other characters at their very best as this radio show will treat your imagination and heart to a fabulous Christmas treat.
Finally, in the spring of 2013, get ready for the full production of Roald Dahl’s “Willy Wonka.” If you have any questions regarding SDP, auditions and their lineup of shows and entertainment, call 360-825-2212.
You would think I’d be tired just listing all this, but I’m not. I’m excited and proud knowing that this nonprofit community theater company that was established 18 years ago is planning some incredible, live entertainment that you or your child can see or audition for.
