Drive by Tacoma Musical Playhouse (TMP) and see the leading star of the first musical of our 21st season peering out over our marquee.
Shrek the Musical opens September 26 – October 19, 2014
About the Show & Its Cast
Shrek the Musical tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren’t only found in fairy tales.
The role of everyone’s favorite swamp-dwelling ogre, Shrek, will be played by John Cooper. Megan Worthen will play the feisty Princess Fiona. Isaiah Parker is Shrek’s annoying but loveable best friend Donkey and Steve Barnett plays the vertically challenged villain, Lord Farquaad.
About the Cast
John Cooper (Shrek)
John has performed extensively on the theater stage including over a dozen shows at Seattle’s 5th Avenue: Mame with Juliet Prowse, Kismet with Patrice Munsel, Camelot with Noel Harrison, The Sound of Music with Terrence Mann, and Sweeney Todd with Allen Fitzpatrick. Some of his favorite roles include Anthony in Sweeney Todd, Gaylord Ravenal in Show Boat, Billy Bigelow in Carousel, and the Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. His Recent TMP roles include Man of La Mancha (Miguel de Cervantes/Don Quixote de la Mancha) and Les Misérables (Javert). Baritone John Cooper can be seen singing the National Anthem at Safeco Field for the Seattle Mariners.
Megan Worthen (Fiona)
Megan is thrilled to be playing one of her dream roles at TMP. This is her first time on our stage. Some of her credits include Annie (Miss Hannigan), White Christmas (Judy Haynes), Into The Woods (Rapunzel), You Can’t Take It With You (Essie Carmichael) and Oklahoma! (Ado Annie) at ManeStage Theatre in Sumner. Regional credits include Disney’s Beauty And The Beast and Joseph…Dreamcoat. Megan graduated from BYU in Music, Dance, and Theatre, and is co-founder of Broadway On The Side and is currently Managing Director of The Triple Threat Company. Megan resides in Sumner, WA.
Isaiah Parker (Donkey)
Isaiah is honored to be doing another show at TMP. You most recently saw him in La Cage Aux Folles, Joseph and the …Dreamcoat and Color Purple. He enjoys performing on stage at the 5th Avenue, Village Theatre, Tacoma Musical Playhouse, Balagan and Seattle Musical Theatre.
Steve Barnett (Farquaad)
Steve is thrilled to be returning to the stage in his ninth season at TMP! Although this is a really small role (pun intended) he is very excited to be playing this over-the- top little man! Steve is the Director of Education at Tacoma Musical Playhouse where he teaches musical theater camps and classes to youth and adults, as well as within the community!
