Youth services collecting fall school supplies for students

Enumclaw

School supplies are hitting the stores and Christine Adkins at Enumclaw Youth and Family Services wants to remind shoppers to purchase extra and donate to her organization’s school supply drive.

Enumclaw Youth and Family Services leaders are asking community members, businesses and churches to help fill more than 300 backpacks with school supplies for low-income children in Enumclaw.

School supplies will be collected through Aug. 17. The backpacks will be distributed from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 19 at J.J. Smith Elementary School.

According to Adkins, last year’s 360 backpacks went fast.

Students will need calculators, binders, packs of paper, colored pencils, No. 2 pencils, rulers, tissue boxes, packs of pens, glue bottles, glue sticks, 16-count crayons, eight-count color markers, scissor, pencil sharpeners, folders with pockets, erasers, spiral notebooks, Mead composition notebooks and dividers.

Organizers are asking for new supplies only.

Supplies can be dropped off at the Enumclaw Youth Center, 1356 Cole St. For information, contact Adkins at 360-825-4586, ext. 5654.
