MALICIOUS MISCHIEF
• A mother called police at 11:40 a.m. Jan. 14 to report her 16-year-old son had damaged the residence in the 4700 block of North Island Drive. When officers arrived the 34-year-old mother was in the street crying and the boy was sitting on the roof of the residence. The mother told officers the boy had been suspended from high school that day for making threats to harm other students and threatening to damage school property. The mother went to pick her son up from school and they argued on the trip home. Once at the residence they continued to argue. The mother left the residence and a short time later received a call from her son stating he was going to thrash the house. She returned home and found he had damaged walls in his bedroom and the front door. The officers persuaded the boy to come off the roof. He told the officers he became upset when she took his Xbox away as punishment. The boy was arrested for malicious mischief and booked into Remann Hall.
POSSESSION
• An officer stopped a 31-year-old man for a defective muffler and broken windshield at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 13. While the officer was talking to the man he could smell a strong odor of marijuana. A K-9 drug dog alerted on an area under the dashboard. A bag of marijuana and a glass pipe were found. The man was booked into the Buckley jail for possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
DOMESTIC
• A 22-year-old woman arrived at the police department at 6 p.m. Jan. 12 to report a domestic violence incident in the 19000 block of Church Lake Road. The woman said she and her husband were arguing about finances when her husband picked her up and threw her on the hardwood floor of their residence. According to the woman, when she told her husband she was going to call police he took her cell phone. She also said when she attempted to call on the house phone he pulled the cord from the wall. The woman said she took her 8-month-old son and left the residence. The officers went to the residence and talked to the husband. He said he did not throw his wife to the floor. The man said she tripped over a diaper bag. He said he did not pull the phone from the wall. Officers checked the phone, which was not damaged. The officers found the words “I Hate You” scrawled on the mirror with makeup. The husband said his wife must have written it before leaving. The man left the residence with his parents. The woman and child remained at the scene.
SWERVING
• An officer stopped an 18-year-old man who was reportedly swerving across the fog line at 12:41 a.m. Jan 11 on state Route 410. The driver was observed by two witnesses who called 911 to report the driver. The officer stopped the vehicle on 95th Street East after the man had turned onto Sky Island Drive. There was a 19-year-old male passenger in the car. The driver denied drinking alcohol, but said he was taking pain medications. The officer noticed the man had a large amount of chewing tobacco in his mouth. The man told the officer he had taken more than the prescribed dose of medication. He also told the officer he was lost. The officer noted the man smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words. The officer asked the man again how much he had been drinking. The man admitted he had been playing “beer pong” with friends. The officer asked the man to step out of the vehicle for a field sobriety test. The man told the officer his parents told him to never take the test if he was in this situation. The man said his parents were not attorneys, but told him to contact one if he was stopped for suspicion of drunk driving. The man refused again to take a field sobriety test and he was arrested and for cited driving under the influence. Once in the patrol car the man admitted to drinking about five beers. The passenger was cited for being a minor in possession following a portable breath test. He was released to meet a friend.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT
• An 18-year-old man was arrested for disorderly conduct, being a minor in possession and resisting arrest at 2:13 a.m. Jan. 11. The incident occurred in the drive-through of Jack in the Box restaurant at 19505 SR 410 East. An employee of the business called dispatch to report a two vehicles were blocking the drive-through and one suspect was urinating in the parking lot, using vulgar language and “mooning” people. Officers arrived on the scene and stopped one of the suspect cars. The driver, a 19-year-old man, denied any disruptive behavior. A witness identified the passenger in the car as the disruptive person. The officer asked the 18-year-old man to step out of the car and noticed a smell of alcohol. As the officer was placing the man in handcuffs he spun away and tried to run. The officers grabbed his shirt and wrestled him to the ground. He was booked into the Buckley jail.
ASSAULT
• At 2:20 p.m. Jan. 9 a 29-year-old woman reported to police her 21-year-old boyfriend assaulted her in the 9500 block of 205th Avenue East. The officer found the woman walking along 93rd Street East with her four children. The woman told the officer the man was upset about the food she purchased and threw a container of ice cream at her, hitting her in the back. She said the man punched her in the stomach and picked up a chair and threw it at her. She said he missed. The woman said she went outside and with her children. The woman said while she was outside the man threw food at her and kicked a bag of potato chips all over the yard. She said the man left the area on his bicycle. The man could not be found and a report of the incident was forwarded to the prosecutor.
DUI
• An officer attempted to stop a vehicle at 1:45 a.m. Jan 9 for improper lane travel on 214th Avenue East. The 39-year-old driver did not stop, but continued onto Sumner-Buckley Highway and turned onto Kelly Lake Road where the man finally pulled over. The officer asked the for his license, registration and proof of insurance. The man smelled of alcohol and was slurring his words. The man asked the officer three times why he pulled him over. The man was arrested for driving under the influence and booked into the Buckley jail. The man‚Äôs car was impounded.
Sumner
DUI
• An officer on patrol noticed the car behind him appeared to be veering into the other lane Jan. 14. The officer let the car go around and checked the plate, finding the registered owner had a suspended license. When the officer initiated a stop, the driver had trouble finding the button to roll the window down. The officer noticed a strong odor of alcohol. When the driver told the officer where he was going, the officer noticed he was traveling the wrong way for that destination. The officer placed the driver under arrest and while the officer completed paperwork, the driver fell asleep three times. The driver was booked into jail for driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license.
NEGLIGENT DRIVING
• While checking flooded areas Jan. 13 in the 14800 block of Stewart Road, an officer spotted a man drive a vehicle around multiple barricades and “Road Closed” signs, through the floodwater and over another barricade. The officer stopped the vehicle and asked the driver what he was doing. The driver just shrugged. He could provide no proof of insurance and his tabs were expired. The officer found he also had an arrest warrant issued by another jurisdiction and his license was suspended. The officer placed him under arrest and cited him for driving with a suspended license and malicious mischief plus infractions for negligent driving, no insurance and expired tabs.
STOLEN CARD
• An woman reported her wallet missing and money was taken from her bank account. Earlier, she had been in a car with her friend and two male passengers in the back seat. They stopped at a drive-through automated teller machine and the woman told her friend her personal identification number and handed over her card. She then put the card in her wallet and set the wallet in the car. Later, she found the wallet missing from the car and $140 withdrawn from her account. She asked one of the male passengers about it, and he denied taking it. An officer contacted the bank for photographs and the owner identified the male passenger in the photos. An officer went to the man’s home and arrested him for forgery. Officers found a bank card in the suspect’s wallet and later confirmed it as the stolen card.
