16-year-old girl dies following Saturday shooting outside Enumclaw

King County authorities are investigating the Saturday shooting that left a girl dead in a rural area outside Enumclaw.

Note: the following is a press release issued Saturday by the King County Sheriff’s Office. The story will be updated as details are made available.

A 16 year-old Enumclaw girl died last night (Saturday) after she was shot while in a house located in the 33900 block of SE Green River Headworks Road. Occupants of the residence took her in their truck to Enumclaw Community Hospital but the girl was dead on arrival at about 8:20 PM.

The girl was reported as a runaway to Enumclaw Police on October 19th. Earlier last evening the girl’s mother called 9-1-1 to report her daughter was with her 25 year-old “boy friend”. She said the girl was in the house where she was later shot. Deputies went to the residence but were denied permission to enter to look for her. They interviewed the three men at the house, including the boy friend, but all said she wasn’t there.

Before calling the Sheriff’s Office, the mother saw her daughter on a deck of the house smoking. But before deputies arrived, two vehicles left the residence, and the mother didn’t know if the girl was in one of them or not.

One of the two men who drove the girl to the hospital was the boy friend.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit are investigating, including the possibility that this was an accidental shooting. The weapon was a handgun.

There have been no arrests and the investigation is continuing.
