Annexation meeting set

A series of public meetings to discuss the upcoming vote on annexation of Enumclaw into Fire Protection District 28 begins with a session Thursday at the fire station on Wells Street in Enumclaw.

The meeting is planned for 6 to 8 p.m.

The ballot measure will be decided by voters in both the city and the district during the Nov. 2 general election.

Presently, it’s a combined district, operating with tax dollars provided by property owners in both the city and District 28. The financial investment is not expected to change dramatically should the annexation be approved.

This difference would come in operation and decision-making authority. Presently, the city wields most of the power, although the trio of district commissioners have input. If the annexation vote is approved, the balance of power would shift to the district.

Enumclaw city government has approved the measure, although a series of questions and concerns have prompted the city to delay the vote a couple of times.

Additional public meetings regarding the annexation issue are planned for Oct. 6 at the Enumclaw station and Oct. 13 at the Cumberland station. Information also will be available during an Oct. 9 open house at the Enumclaw station on Wells Street.
