Everywhere one turns, security measures are becoming more prevalent as the public adapts to a post-9/11 world. Now, a security system – in the form of a walk-through metal detector – has come to Enumclaw. Soon, a unit will grace the entryway of the court chambers in Enumclaw City Hall. It will be used for both Enumclaw and Maple Valley courts, which meet weekly in the Griffin Avenue building.
The Enumclaw Comm-unity Hospital Foundation has received a $200,000 financial gift from Margaret Koening on behalf of the Koening family, one of the largest single financial contributions ever directed the foundation’s way.

Sunday marks the return of the Seattle Sounders to the Plateau. The professional soccer team, with a long and storied history in the Pacific Northwest, is taking on the Liga Latina All-Stars, a group of Mexican players, in a preseason soccer game Sunday that is a fund raiser for the Cascade Foothills Soccer Club.
The club sport of water polo is up and running at Enumclaw High School. This is he second year EHS has had a water polo program. The team, which includes 40 girls, is coached by George Jaquette. The Hornets play in the Central Division with Auburn, Auburn Riverside, Decatur, Federal Way, Kentridge and Kentwood. Approximately two dozen teams in the state participate in girls water polo. Teams play double-headers on Saturdays at Highline Community College.

Enumclaw’s Cindy Shane knows the value of power lifting. Shane, who graduated from Enumclaw High School in 1983, has now been lifting weights for two years. She has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments including third place finishes at the Northwest Regionals on January 19 and in the woman’s open class at the State Power Lifting Championships last August. To win her trophy at the state championships, Cindy managed 300 pounds in the squat, 155 pounds in the bench press and 315 pounds in the dead lift for a total of 770 pounds.
Enumclaw Dairy Queen is getting a “brand spanking new” look this spring, according to manager Ron Baxter. The structure, located on Highway 410 will receive a new roof, siding and completely remodeled interior.

Situated on an eight-acre tract at the southwest corner of the intersection of Blake Street and Highway 410, Enumclaw’s newest automobile service center will open its doors for public inspection this week end. The Emry Buick-Pontiac Company’s modern new building is the latest addition to Enumclaw’s many fine automobile dealerships. Customers and friends are invited to inspect the modern new plant and to enjoy refreshments which will be served without charge on Friday and Saturday during the company’s open house.
The highest award given by the state Future Farmers Association of Washington went to 115 young men here Friday night. The State Farmer Degree goes each year to members of the 141 local chapters who have distinguished themselves in FFA work. Not more than 2 percent of the membership can be selected in any year. A State Farmer Degree went to Richard Todnem of Enumclaw.

Enumclaw’s building construction for 1935 takes a jump this week with the announcement of a new building to be constructed at the corner of Griffin Avenue and Wells Street. The new building will be built upon the site now occupied by the Owl Confectionery and the vacant lots between the confectionry and Stweart’s Cafe.
Marjorie Crosson and Helene Falcus attended a progressive dinner and show in Tacoma Monday as guests of Betty Heidinger.
Following the short business meeting Tuesday night, honors for cards ere awarded to Mrs. Grover Jacobs and Hugh Kinkade, Ms. Alfred Jensen and G.N. Lafromboise, Mrs. George Gunderson, Mrs. Russell Thomson, Mrs. Frank Merritt and Mrs. Frank Mausolf.
Several friends gathered at the home of Mrs. Augusta Peterson last week celebrating her birthday. Covers were placed for Mr. and Mrs. David Swanson and Esther, Mr. and Mrs. Gunnar Swanson and Gladys and Paul, Mrs. Andrew Strom and Helen, Mrs. O.M. Strom and Esther, Re. Walter Pederson, Tillman Lien, Nels Storbo, Esther and Pete Peterson and the honored guest.
