Deciding to help out the Buckley Fire Department by painting the city’s fire hydrants for his Eagle Scout project was a no-brainer for Jonathan Griggsby. In addition to having ties to the department (his mother works there) Griggsby also plans on becoming a firefighter after finishing high school.
Enumclaw’s world-famous Midcrest Farm Arabian breeding operation has moved. It’s new location, 40835 244th S.E., is approximately a half-mile from where the farm established roots more than 30 years ago.

Even if the sewer pump doesn’t arrive on time, the first bell will ding softly Tuesday at Thunder Mountain Middle School, calling sixth- seventh- and eighth-graders to class in the spanking-new building. Last week workmen were still installing floor coverings in some parts of the building and putting the seats on the retractable bleachers. boxes of badminton rackets, plastic bowling pins and every manner of sports ball covered the floor of the auxiliary gym.
Diana Steggall-Owen got a surprise as she drove into Buckley Friday morning. The clock she had donated in 1996 to the city was back up on Main Street near the Highway 410 intersection. Stegall-Owen donated the clock in memory of her fiance K. Wes Stanley who died in a 1995 car accident.

With Labor Day marking the end of the long summer vacation, students in the Enumclaw public schools will troop back to the classrooms next Wednesday, September 7, according to an announcement from Charles J. Smith, superintendent of schools. Smith said that school officials anticipate an enrollment in excess of 2,200, more than 100 over the enrollment a year ago.
The 1960 version of the King County Fair is now history, but according to Martin Teeter, manager of the annual event and vocational agriculture instructor at the Enumclaw High School, numbers last Sunday topped all previous records. Teeter said that more than 300 head of livestock were entered in the country-wide show and that nearly 1,000 members of 4-H clubs and Future Farmers of America chapters attended the fair.

“Gentlemen Jim” Dillman, Enumclaw Athletic Club kicker and passer, is seen by many as the key man of the 1935 Silver Baron team.
New J.J. Smith School principal is J.C. Caughlan, new high school principal is C.M Boundy, while W.C. Tucker will open the term as Superintendent of Schools, coming from Richmond Beach to assume his new duties.
