Now half-way through its inaugural season the Bonney Lake High girls soccer team has seven more games to prove its place at the top of the Seamount League Pierce Division standings is not a fluke. With a 5-0-2 record, the senior-less Panthers are the only undefeated team remaining in the Pierce Division.

The on-again, off-again White River Amphitheater project has once again been delayed. The 20,000-seat venue, proposed and partially built by the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, has been caught up in the red tape that swirls around federal rules and regulations. The bottom line is, the amphitheater will most likely not open in the spring, as the tribe had hoped.

Enumclaw High School has been notified by National Merit Scholarship Corporation that Hal Bryan, Jim Hogan, Mike Irwin, Kelly Kalin, Heather Muhlick, Matt Scheiblehner, Todd Smith and Vickie Van Epps have been designated Commended Students in the 1986 Merit Program. Principal Conrad Hamilton announced that these seniors will receive a Letter of Commendation in honor of outstanding academic promise, demonstrated by placing in the top 5 percent of more than one million participants in the 31st annual program.

October 6, 1960

A stunned crowd of Clover Park fans saw their hopes for a Puget Sound League title disappearing last Friday night when the plucky Enumclaw High School Hornets dumped the Warriors 21-0 on the Pierce County school’s home gridiron. It was the first defeat the Warriors had suffered on their home field since 1954. The smashing victory rocketed Wes Borreson’s 11 into a tie for first place with Renton and gave Hornet supporters pause to reflect on the possibility of a post-season game with the Indians to decide the championship.

Round trip cost of $2.50 per person will reserve space on the bus for the Yakima Athletic Club-Enumclaw game Sunday afternoon. Governor Clarence D. Martin has accepted an invitation to attend the Silver Baron contest.

Jens Holm, local delegate to the Danish Brotherhood Convention in Denver, was the recipient of a surprise party this week.
