After 20 victories, a Seamount League Championship and a second-place showing in the West Central District tournament, the White River High School girls find themselves in a familiar position – heading to the Class 3A state basketball tourney. The hornet girls slipped last season and failed to earn a bid in the 16-team state tournament, but had become something of a fixture at the Tacoma Done prior to that, earning a state berth five years in a row.

Mount Rainier Christian Center is hoping to take up the slack created when the city of Enumclaw cut its annual Easter egg hunt from the budget this year. The church had a community Easter Egg hunt on its grounds at 244t Avenue Southeast and the Auburn-Enumclaw Highway last year that gave away 3.000 plastic goody-filled eggs to 1,500 kids. This year it has rented the King county Fairgrounds and plans to do 12,000 eggs to treat kids of all ages, said Pastor Brent Kimball.
Joe Tackenberg kept the omelets, ham and hot cakes coming Sunday morning at Boy Scouts Troop 546’s pancake breakfast at the Enumclaw Moose Lodge. The Scouts cleared close to $200 on their fund raiser.

February 28, 1985
Ernie’s Mobil station in Enumclaw was robbed at gunpoint last Saturday and the robber got away with $300. Enumclaw police report that the robber told an employee that he had a gun and he wanted money. After the robber got the money he fled eastbound on Highway 410 in a “beat-up_ cream-colored Vega. Police are sill investigating.
Cleanup of a large section of land near Railroad Street has been underway in recent weeks. The cleanup is being performed by Carl DeCross Construction which is charging the city only operator’s time and fuel. Plans are to clear the property from Battersby Avenue to Highway 410. The property was formerly railroad-right-of-way.

According to the annual report made to the city council last week by Fire Chief Guy N. Lafromboise, the city enjoyed what is perhaps the lowest per capita fire loss in the state during 1959. Chief Lafromboise, who is also president of the Washington State Association of Fire Chiefs, reported that the city’s actual loss during the year 1959 was only $600. The property involved in the fires was estimated to be worth an aggregate of $50,000.
After 34 years under the same management, the Buckley Nursery Company is changing ownership, according to an announcement this week by Mr. and Mrs. William Schwab who have operated the nursery throughout the long period of time. The Schwabs said the new owners and operators will be William Hemmings of Puyallup and Arthur Mehas of California. Hemmings is a geology graduate of the University of Washington, but his “first love” has been horticulture.

March 1, 1935
The Cardinet Candy Company, sponsors of an NBC radio program, “Night Editor,” featured a story written by H.J. Glover in The Courier-Herald. “Bachelors Celebrate Fiftieth Anniversary” was in the November 30 issue. The story was sent in by Mr. Fred Koeplin of 1764 Lafromboise Street. Both men received boxes Street. Both men received boxes of candy as their prizes.
The VFW held their annual Memorial Services last Friday with Chaplain William Hannus conducting. Comrades Jack haines, Fred Powers and Joe Strum received the Badge of the Purple Heart. Other presentations on the program were music by Peggy Radcliffe on piano, Jean Bruhn and Helen Hansen in a violin duet accompanied by Louis Hansen, and an acrobatic dance by Carol Butcher.
