George Kranc woke up with a premonition. According to Kranc, 94, a lifelong Enumclaw resident, he knew he was going to hit a hole in one. “I predicted it,” Kranc said. “I don’t know why-this sounds kind of stupid-but I woke up that morning and I thought, ‘you know, I think I might get a hole in one today. I’m going to stop on my way home and take the card down to my son and show him I got a hole in one today.’ And that’s exactly what happened.” For Kranc, his July 19 ace – on the par 3, 120-yard 13th hole at his hometown course – marked the sixth hole-in-one in his more than 60 years golfing.

Shelly Haven loves flowers. So much so that she bought Young’s Flowers and Gifts in Enumclaw. Haven bought the store at 1527 Cole St. in April when the previous owner Judy Wall was ready to exit the floral business. Haven said she kept the Young’s name because everyone in the Plateau is familiar with it. She didn’t change the store either.

The MARY-RUBY is pictured as she was tied up in the Lake Washington ship canal just east of the government locks one day last week. Shown in the left background is a truck from which cattle are being unloaded and herded into pens on the ship’s deck.
