All suspects named in the police blotter are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
VEHICLE PROWL: Police on May 23 took a report in the lobby of the Public Safety Building from a resident who reported several thefts from his vehicle while it was parked at the Park and Ride lot. According to the reporting party, he returned to his vehicle May 16 and found his gas gauge lower than expected and his gas cap loose. On May 21 he noticed his rear window open and his stereo, speakers and a tool chest were missing, On May 22 he noticed his gas cap was missing. Police are investigating.
WEAPONS: Police on May 27 were dispatched to the 21200 block of 83rd Street East for a report of a weapons call. According to dispatch, the buidling landlord had pulled a shotgun on the reporting party, who rents a room at the house. When police arrived, the landlord was not holding his gun and officers reported the scenes was “eerily calm for the type of call we were just dispatched to.” The suspect seemed surprised when police asked about a gun and said no weapon was used, pointed, grabbed or held during the argument, he just wanted the tenant to leave. The alleged victim was apparently down on his luck and had been staying at the house for about five days but had begun sending “terrible text messages” to the owner’s niece in which he called her names and accused her of stealing from him. The niece also said she woke up in the morning and found the suspect laying in bed with her. The niece said there was no romantic relationship of any kind between the two of them. When police contacted the suspect he said he sent the niece a message about taking his things and soon after was confronted by the landlord with a gun, telling him it was time to leave. The man said the landlord was “great guy” and he did not want to press any charges at all. The landlord denied ever confronting the man with a gun and refused to complete a written statement. Police arranged for the man to retrieve his things from the house and concluded that the man’s demeanor did not at all match someone who would have had a gun pointed at them and concluded there was no probable cause to arrest.
DRUGS AND TRESPASSING: Police on May 23 were dispatched to the Goodwill store for a report of two females allegedly shoplifting. As police arrived, dispatch reported the females were paying for merchandise, but still seem hesitant to leave the store and the manager wanted them trespassed. Police contacted the two women and a records check revealed one to have multiple outstanding warrants. Police placed her under arrests and during a search found a large number (more than 300) of assorted pills in her purse and a large sum of money. Several of the pills were in a baggie and others were in two orange pill bottles, neither of which contained the woman’s name. Research indicated the pills were not what the woman claimed and several tested positive for opiates. The woman was transported to Pierce County Jail and booked on charges of unlawful possession of a controlled substance as well as her warrants.
FALSE INSURANCE: Police on May 24 were contacted by an employee of the Bonney Lake Municipal Court reporting an insurance fraud. According to the employee, a person came into the court to present an insurance card following the issuance of an infraction for no proof of insurance. But when the clerk checked the record, it was for a pickup truck, not the Honda Accord the suspect had been driving. The clerk explained the suspect needed a card for the vehicle she was driving and the suspect left. She returned a short time later with a card from Allstate Insurance, but the clerk noticed the Allstate logo was not right and there were two typographical errors on the card, including a misspelling of words “effective” and “expiration.” The clerk also called the insurance company and discovered it was not a valid insurance card. The suspect left the area. A citation was generated for Providing False Evidence of Financial Responsibility for the suspect.
THEFT: Officers on May 24 took a report in the lobby of the Public Safety Building from a woman whose car was prowled while it was parked at the Safeway lot. When the woman returned to her car, she noticed her purse missing. The woman said her car was locked and the purse was out of sight. Police are investigating.
PROWL: Police on May 26 contacted over the phone the victim of a car prowl in the 7700 block of 191st Avenue East. The victim reported more than 50 cds a battery converter and several pieces of paperwork were taken from the car, which was left unlocked with the passenger side window partially open. Police are investigating.
THEFT: Officers on May 27 were contacted by a woman regarding the theft of a Kindle Fire from her home. She said she did not immediately notice the device missing, but has since received notification of someone downloading apps to the device. She provided police with possible suspect information and they are investigating.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY: Police on May 27 were dispatched to the 19000 block of 82nd Street east for a report of a residential burglary. The victims had returned from a camping trip to find multiple items taken, including a television, a computer, a stereo, jewelry, mail and numerous banking documents. The suspects also wrote “You got punked” on a dry erase board on the victim’s refrigerator. Police are investigating.
