BBB has launched Scam Tracker – a free interactive tool that gives consumers and law enforcement agencies insight on scams and malicious activity in their area.

Information provided by victims and would be victims of scams is collected by all BBB locations across the U.S. and Canada.

“It’s a valuable tool for consumers and fraud fighters,” said Tyler Andrew, president and CEO of Better Business Bureau serving Alaska, Oregon and Western Washington. “Scam Tracker exposes fraud in real time and uses technology to alert consumers of fraud before it’s too late.”

Scam Tracker reports are sent to the National Cyber-Forensics and Training Alliance (NCFTA) for analysis and collaboration with law enforcement to help prosecute scammers in the U.S. and overseas.

These reports will also be used for BBB alerts and serve as the basis for local investigations, news releases, warnings and trends analysis.

To search or report scams on Scam Tracker:

• By Keyword. Typing in a keyword will generate a report showing national results for that word. The interactive map will allow a person to narrow your search to a particular city or region.

• By Scam Type. An alphabetized drop down list of scams is provided.

• By Country. Scams reported in the U.S. and Canada are currently included on Scam Tracker with plans for BBB Mexico to join in the future.

• By Date. The “Date Reported” field allows for a window of time to be entered. There is even a “Today” option to view any scams entered into the system for the present day.
