Five women will host a spaghetti dinner and concert at Buckley Hall August 29 to help fund their team in the 2010 Susan G. Komen Walk For A Cure event.
Walk For A Cure is the largest breast cancer charity in the world, raising money every year for research, education and health services. It is perhaps most well known for its annual three-day team walkathon staged in cities nationwide.
Victoria Feist, Kim Howell, Amber Olsen-Walker, Julie Snead and Sue Tester of the “Treasured Chests” team are working busily to reach their $11,500 fundraising goal – a $2,300 minimum per walker. They have already made headway through a poker game and several garage sales.
“A few of us have been affected personally by cancer, through friends and family that have had the disease,” Howell said. “This was a challenge to each of us to contribute fighting breast cancer.”
The team chose Buckley Hall because it was the most reasonably priced local rental that could support an estimated 150 to 200 guests.
“The town has been great,” Howell said. “The council waived the normal $450 rental fee and we’re only paying $150 for the night.”
Dinner will begin at 4:30 p.m. and bands Tune Down and The Sammy Steele Band will play at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m., respectively. Attendees will be able to bid in a raffle and silent auction throughout. Prizes will include gift cards for Pet Pros, Legendary Doughnuts, Subway and Salon Mogano.
Tickets to the event are $10 and admission is free for children younger than 3. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 253-862-6655.
