Plans continue moving forward on benefit events aimed at providing financial assistance for an Enumclaw family plagued with troubles.

Martin and Melissa Nachtsheim became parents in June 2011 to a baby boy, Lincoln, who was 10 weeks premature and weighed less than 2 pounds. The baby spent 54 days in the hospital and will have lasting effects from the premature birth. In the fall, Melissa Nachtsheim was diagnosed with a rare type of blood cancer, which is believed to have caused a clotting disorder and a liver disease. Finally, on January 17, Martin Nachtsheim sustained serious injuries during a car crash on state Route 410. An erratic driver crossed the center line and plowed head-on into Nachtsheim’s vehicle, leaving him with injuries to a leg and arm, along with a broken back, all requiring surgery.

Friends and family are organizing a garage sale that will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Thujnder Mountain Middle School.

Donations will be accepted until the sale begins. Anyone wishing to contribute items for the sale can deliver them between 2 and 4 p.m. Friday to a collection site in the parking lot of the Safeway store in Enumclaw. On Saturday, items can be delivered to Thunder Mountain between 7 and 8 a.m.

Also in the works is a benefit dinner planned for 5 to 8 p.m. March 17 in the Enumclaw High School commons. Dinner will be served and there will be silent and live auctions, a dessert dash and games for kids.

The cost is $5 per person, with children 12 and younger admitted free.
