The body of the woman who fell into the Carbon River last week has been recovered.
According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department, first responders received a 911 call around 8:15 a.m. from a volunteer drone operator saying they found a female body in the Carbonado River.
It took an hour for Central Pierce Fire, Orting Swift Water, and Pierce County Sheriff Swift Water to recover the body and identity Zuleika Witron, who fell into the river on March 23 with her dog; she was found two miles from the Fairfax Bridge, where she went into the water.
The dog was found alive the same day about a quarter mile from the bridge.
“We want to thank all the first responders and volunteers that put many hours into this search since Sunday,” PCSD PIO Carly Cappetto said in a Facebook post. “Zuleika’s recovery can hopefully bring closure and peace to the family and all involved in this tragic incident.”
