Bonney Lake City Council members unanimously approved an ordinance setting the amount of the annual ad valorem tax levy for 2010, which includes a decrease in the property tax level from the previous year.

The action was taken at the council’s Nov. 24 meeting.

The city’s actual levy amount from the previous year was $2.45 million.

The dollar amount of the decrease from the previous year is a percentage factor of 99.152, according to Mayor Neil Johnson.

“This is a one-percent reduction,” Johnson said. “That is something that many cities are not doing.”

Deputy Mayor Dan Swatman said he believes the city is in financial position to offer the reduction to taxpayers.

“For some it’s very little, for some it’s a little bit more,” Swatman said. “But every and any dollar counts.”

The ordinance also provides funds for the General Obligation Bonds previously issued to construct the Interim Justice Center. Voters authorized a tax levy collected in 2010 in the amount of $359,750.
