Bonney Lake City Council breezes through agenda

Executive session lasted 10 minutes

Excluding a 10-minute executive session, the Bonney Lake City Council took just 15 minute to breeze through Aug. 25 agenda. Fewer than 10 people were in attendance for the short meeting.

Councilman Mark Hamilton had a question about Resolution 1960, awarding the downtown improvement contract to Johansen Excavating Inc.

He said he was confused about two accounts regarding Traffic Impact Fees for the project.

City Administrator Don Morrison explained that one account was for the engineering section of the project and the other was construction.

“It’s still out of the same TIF account,” Morrison said.

The city has scheduled improvements for four roadways – Main Street East, Sumner-Buckley Highway, 90th Street East and state Route 410.

Johansen Excavating was awarded the contact with a low bid of $2.1 million.

City Engineer John Woodcock the $2.2 million is the largest amount used from impact fees on any single project in the city’s history.

Council members also approved a settlement with Park Place Condominium and Reich Land Inc. The city accepted a $33,642 payment to undertake erosion control measures, secure the entrance and hydroseed the site of the defunct condominium project.

In other action, the council:

• authorized a professional service agreement with KPG Consultants for construction services and a survey for the the Downtown Improvement Project.

• granted Puget Sound Energy an easement near the City Hall Annex.

The next council meeting is Sept. 8 at City Hall, 19306 Bonney Lake Blvd. For more information, visit www.ci.bonney-lake.wa.us.
