The Bonney Lake Food Bank, part of Bonney Lake Community Resources, announced its participation in CenturyLink’s annual food drive during the city’s last council meeting on May 26.
The food drive is a special matching challenge to help local food banks provide even more healthy food to their hungry children and families. From June 1–12, the CenturyLink Clarke M. Williams Foundation multiplies the value of all contributions made to the Bonney Lake Food Bank by matching up to $6 per each dollar raised and up to $1 per pound for food donated during that time.
“This presents an extraordinary opportunity for individuals, organizations and businesses in our community to boost the impact of their efforts to alleviate hunger. Plus, the timing of this campaign couldn’t be better,” said Stew Bowen, executive director of the food bank. “The summer months tend to be lean, so this will really help to build community resources that support programs designed to help our local families in need.”
The Bonney Lake Food Bank currently serves an average of 4,400 people each month, nearly 40 percent who are children.
“It’s vital we come together in Bonney Lake to end hunger right here in our community,” said Rex Pulfrey, resources board president. “We recognize the demand for food during the summer increases when children are out of school, and we appreciate the numerous friends and neighbors who join in this worthwhile endeavor. Collectively we can help fight hunger and improve the quality of their lives.”
