Beginning in March, Bonney Lake residents will pay a little bit more to have their trash hauled away.
DM Disposal has notified the city of their plans to increase fees by an average of 6 percent.
According to Bonney Lake Facilities and Special Projects Manager Gary Leaf, the cost increase is due to an automatic adjustment tied to the Consumer Price Index. According to statute, fees can be increased by up to 80 percent of the index, which this year translates to approximately 3 percent.
In addition, Leaf said there has been a 3 percent increase in landfill costs, which DM is passing through to customers, bringing the overall total to about 6 percent.
For residential customers, the new rate of a single can curb collection will be $21.73 per month.
The new rates are scheduled to go into effect March 1.
