The city of Bonney Lake will host a ribbon cutting for the new community garden at 5 p.m. Thursday at the garden, 18421 89th St. E.
According to Stew Bowen, who oversees the garden in his role as executive director of the Bonney Lake Food Bank, nearly 30 community members have signed up for plots on the three-quarter acre site.
Raised beds, made with donated wood and soil, have been put in to allow gardeners the opportunity to plant without having to dig through the site’s rocky dirt.
Community members can keep their harvest or donate it to the food bank and/or senior center if they choose.
There is no cost for a plot.
“This year its free, you get to just use the plot,” Bowen said. “But you take care of your own plot.”
The city will continue taking applications for plots until June 10. For more information or to download a form, visit http://www.ci.bonney-lake.wa.us/garden
