A student at Bonney Lake High School was arrested and expelled Friday morning after bringing a handgun to school.
No one was injured in the incident and officials believe the student had no intention of harming anyone, but brought the gun to school in advance of a activity scheduled for after school.
“No threats were made,” said Sumner School District Communications Director Ann Cook.
According to Cook, the student planned to go target shooting after school and mentioned to a friend during first period that he had a gun with him.
“What we’ve determined thus far us that student shared it with a couple of others and administrators were notified,” Cook said.
The student, whom Cook said was cooperative, was escorted to the office by security. He was arrested and, as per state law, emergency expelled from the school.
Cook said the incident was one of “poor judgment” on the part of the student, but again said he had no intent of harming anyone.
Parents were notified via email at approximately 10 a.m.
Bonney Lake police have launched a concurrent investigation.
Cook said the issue was resolved quickly and the school was never put into a “lockdown” status.
“Students did what we would like them to do, which is alert an adult,” Cook said.
