Bonney Lake High School students involved in car vs pedestrian accident Monday

A Bonney Lake High School student is back in school after a fellow student hit him with her car early Monday morning.

According to Bonney Lake School Resource Officer Daron Wolschleger, a male student was crossing 199th Avenue East at 104 Street at approximately 7 a.m. Monday when another student on her way to school failed to see him until too late.

The victim was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Wolschleger said the driver was traveling “very slow” at the time but did not see the male until to late. Wolshcleger said she stepped on her brakes, but too late to avoid hitting her fellow student.

Wolschleger said the conditions at the time were dark, rainy and windy with “very poor visibility.”

The victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and was back at school Tuesday.

The driver was issued a citation for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.

“It’s a good reminder when the weather starts to change and it gets darker earlier and lighter later to be careful,” Wolschleger said.
