A 35-year-old Bonney Lake woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of two counts of reckless endangerment after her two 14-year-old children were found intoxicated Aug. 26 at Lake Wenatchee State Park.

According to a press release from the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrive at the scene about 5 p.m. Aug. 26 and found a boy and girl “highly intoxicated and semi-conscious” after consuming alcoholic beverages. Park rangers notified the sheriff’s office after they discovered the children unconscious on the beach.

Sitona Hellerud, the children’s mother, was also highly intoxicated and told deputies the children must have taken the alcohol out of her cooler without her knowledge, the sheriff’s office reported.

Jerry Moore, chief of administration for the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, stated witnesses confirmed Hellerud was “recruiting” other children at the park to drink with her children and that Hellerud was plainly providing alcohol to her own children.

Moore stated both children were transported to Cascade Medical Center in Leavenworth.

The boy registered an a blood alcohol level of .25 – three times the legal limit. The girl’s alcohol level was reported at .13.

He added Hellerud was booked into the Chelan County Regional Justice Center on two counts of Reckless Endangerment.

The children were released to their father, who traveled from Bonney Lake to pick them up, he stated.
