ELUDING: Officers participating in a DUI emphasis Aug. 15 observed a car on state Route 410 make an abrupt U-turn from the far right lane, crossing six lanes. Police activated their sirens to stop the vehicle, which increased speed through a parking lot and eventually was driven over a curb and into a planter. The vehicle then came to an abrupt stop and the driver exited the vehicle and ran across 410. Police chased on foot, but lost the suspect. A K-9 unit was brought in and the suspect was contacted by the dog in the 9700 block of 210th Avenue East. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol from the suspect. He was treated by East Pierce Fire and Rescue and then was transported to Pierce County Jail where he was booked on charges of DUI, reckless driving, eluding a police vehicle, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle without an interlock ignition device when required.

MARIJUANA SAFEKEEPING: Police Aug. 16 were dispatched to the 18500 block of Bonney Lake Boulevard for a welfare check after a neighbor heard a dog barking for more than eight hours. When the neighbor knocked on the door, it swung open. After getting no response from the homeowner, the neighbor called 911. Police arrived to find the house unsecured and also got no response form the homeowner. Police checked the house and found no one inside, but three bedroom doors were unlocked. Continuing their search for the homeowner, police forced entry into the rooms. The homeowner was not located, but several bags of marijuana and 14 smoking utensils were found. Police confiscated the marijuana and pipes and they were placed into the department’s property room as found property. A property form and business cards were left for the homeowner. Before leaving, the residence was secured.

BURGLARY: Police on Aug. 16 were dispatched to the 19300 block of 75th Street East for a report of a burglary. The victim reported that she went from her garage to her house and when she came back out a short time later she noticed someone had entered and stolen a bag containing a printer valued at $500 as well as a few other items. Police are investigating.
