The Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts at the Bonney Lake Senior Center are usually among the most festive – and most crowded days of the year.
Between the hundreds of seniors and the dozens of volunteers, things can get pretty tight, pushing the limits of how many many tables the senior center can hold as well as safety regulations.
“In the past we’ve had to turn people away,” said Senior Center Executive Director Sue Hilberg. “The safety factor was a big one for me.”
So this year, instead of a single meal, the center is spreading both holidays over two days, with servings limited to 70 each day.
Thanksgiving is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at 11:30 a.m. with the Christmas feast set for Dec. 15 and 16.
Hilberg said the Thanksgiving meal will be paid for by donations from the community, but seniors are asked to bring a donation to the Bonney Lake Food Bank.
The Bonney Lake High School Jazz Choir is scheduled to provide entertainment for Thanksgiving.
As of Friday, Thursday’s meal is sold out and Friday was getting close.
The Chrsitmas meal is being paid for and served completely by members of the Bonney Lake Lions Club and the Bonney Lake High School Leo club.
Hilberg said the band Icicle River is scheduled to perform Dec. 15 and members of the Leo Club will be singing as well as serving the following day.
Both events require registration in the bonder at the senior center.
