The Bonney Lake-Sumner Drill Team earned a first place trophy this past weekend at the Heritage High School Dance Competition in Vancouver, Wash.
The team took home the first-place trophy in the military category. They performed to a song called “Downtown Toyko Chase” from the “Fast and the Furious, Tokyo Drift” soundtrack.
Last year, the team placed ninth in the state in the Military category and sixth in the state in the Pom category.
According to coach Jill McKinnley, this year’s season is going incredibly well.
“The team works very hard together and they all get along really well,” McKinnley said in an email. “They are very talented and help each other out with their routines and technique.”
The team’s next competition is on Jan. 21 at Hazen High School in Renton. They will attempt to qualify with their scores for the District Competition (held March 10 at Kentwood High School in Kent). The team will perform both their Military and Pom routines at this competition.
Bonney Lake will also host a competition of its own Jan. 28 at Bonney Lake High School. So far, 12 teams and 22 performances signed up for the BLHS event.
