The City of Bonney Lake will hold a ceremonial ground breaking for the Interim Justice Center Project located at 9002 Main Street E. at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 6.
The approximately 21,000 square foot mixed use three-story building is being constructed by the city and will initially house the City Council Chambers, municipal court, and administrative offices. A portion of the new building may be leased for non-governmental uses.
“We are very excited to be in a position to begin building the vision we developed in the Downtown Plan,” said Bonney Lake Mayor Neil Johnson. “This building will be a cornerstone of the new downtown for the City of Bonney Lake.”
The city is in the process of acquiring properties in the annex surrounding the Public Safety Building for use in a future downtown center that will include a permanent justice center. A timeline has not been established for those future projects, said Community Development Director John Vodopich.
Construction of the new building should begin in this month and is slated to be completed in July.
Group Mackenzie is the architect and M.J. Takisaki, Inc. was selected as the general contractor for the project which is estimated to cost $3.9 million. The project will include improvements to 90th Street East and the joint use parking lot with the library.
