Boy drowns while attempting to cross White River

Emergency vehicles screamed through Enumclaw early Thursday afternoon on their way to a drowning in the White River.

According to multiple news reports, an 11-year-old boy was camping in the Crystal Mountain area with two adults. The three apparently walked across a shallow section of river but, on the return trip, the boy and an adult were swept into the water.

The second person made it to shore safely but the boy was not immediately located. Emergency crews flocked to the area and found the youngster downstream, near Silver Springs Campground. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
