St. Elizabeth Hospital held its third annual “Bras for the Cause” event on Thursday, Oct. 24.

This year included a judged exhibition of 25 decorated bra entries submitted by community artists, hors d’oeuvres created by the Cornerstone Café, a raffle, a silent auction, and shopping with local vendors.

Attendees had the pleasure of hearing from Donna Elzenga, the founder of Bras for the Cause in Enumclaw and Susan Grasdahl, a representative from the Puget Sound Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Dr. Wilke was also honored for the care she provides to breast cancer patients on the Plateau. The judges this year were St. Elizabeth Hospital President Donna Russell-Cook, Enumclaw Mayor Liz Reynolds, Buckley Mayor Pat Johnson and Black Diamond Mayor Rebecca Olness.

The first place entry was titled “Mammograms…Corset Saves Lives!” and submitted by Debra Lynne. The first place entry also won the “People’s Choice Award”, which was voted on by the people in attendance. Second place was titled “Chicken Breasts” and submitted by Neighbors Feeding Neighbors and the third place entry was entitled “Spellbound” and submitted by Geneva Devine. There were about 160 people in attendance and about $3,500 was raised. The funds will support the mammogram screening project at St. Elizabeth which allows uninsured and under insured women in the plateau area to receive potentially life saving mammograms and follow up care.
