The Bridge Street bridge in Sumner will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Today, April 18. Washington state Department of Transportation will be conducting their biennial full inspection of the bridge on that date.
Additional inspection on Tuesday, April 19 will close the bridge to trucks. Passenger vehicles will continue to be allowed access to the bridge. The bridge will reopen to all traffic on Wednesday.
Readerboard signs will redirect traffic through a detour to 24th Street and West Valley Highway.
The inspection coincides with continuing work on the intersection of Traffic Street and Main Street. A city press release apologized for the inconvenience to drivers, but asserted the importance of regular inspections on aging bridges, such as the one on Bridge Street.
Questions on the project should be directed to the city maintenance shop, 253-299-5740.
