King County will replace a bridge north of Enumclaw, causing a long closure of both the road and bridge that will begin June 20. The project is expected to be completed in November.

The bridge is on Southeast 424th Street, west of 284th Avenue Southeast.

The timbers supporting the 60-year-old bridge are rotting and cracked, creating a hazard.

During construction, the King County Road Services Division will demolish the existing bridge and a new bridge will be built in its place.

While the project is under way, the roadway will be closed from 500 feet on either side of the bridge. A nearby trail that crosses 424th Avenue Southeast will have a short detour. The work in and around Watercress Creek must be completed within the June-through-September window for permits issued by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

There will also be another bridge replacement in the area this summer on Southeast 416th Street, but dates for construction and road closures have not been established.
