Buckley Eagles will host a dinner and auction for the Veterans Memorial along state Route 410 at 5 p.m. Saturday.
“(This dinner) is for what you have today that’s been given by the veterans past, present and future,” City Arts Commissioner Bob Olson said. “People have forgotten what they have done for us all our lives. Even though our boys are overseas, we don’t act like it at home. I would like people to look at our veterans memorial and remind themselves that everything we have is because of them.”
Proceeds from Saturday’s event will go to the Buckley Art Commission Fund, which is currently working on completion of the veterans memorial. The pole itself is near completion, with just the painting American flag to be finished. The land around the base of the memorial still needs concrete, flag poles and sandstone rocks representing each branch of military service. There will be brick walls for each branch, with names of servicemen on each brick.
Tickets for the dinner are $20 and several items will be up for auction. Buckley City Council approved two surplus police vehicles, stripped of agency equipment and identifiers, to be auctioned off to buyers. Other items up for auction include paintings, a meal from The Kettle in Enumclaw, legal services, massages and cases of wine.
The local band “Static” will play music from various genres for the audience.
The Art Commission will sell bricks for the memorial at $30 for one line of writing, $35 for two lines and $40 for three.
